Overview
Making wearables is a fun and rewarding activity. Once you learn the basic skills, you’ll be able to plan and create your own wearable technology projects.
This course will start with a gentle introduction to the basics of sewing. What’s a running stitch? We’ve got you covered! How to end your stitches? No problem. What to make – yup we will help with that too.
Then we jump into Arduino basics. We look at installing the program, learning the interface, and setting it up. Then we dive-in with some simple programming.
From there, we learn about and try sensors with the Arduino.
Lesson 5 is all about e-textiles, what are e-textiles, the variety and features of these amazing boards. We then get busy sewing with conductive thread to create a simple sewable circuit.
Lastly, we finish off with your own project using one of the e-textile boards. This is an Arduino coded wearable with sensors and outputs.
Let’s be ambitious and have fun!
Completing this course will help you:
- To sew your own items
- Be able to understand, edit, and write basic Arduino programming
- Understand and use inputs and outputs
- Be knowledgeable about e-textiles, and sew with conductive thread
- Plan and build your own wearables with e-textile boards!
Who is the course for?
This course is suitable for beginners who are excited to learn the basics of Arduino and wearable circuits. Particularly,
- those at the beginning of their tech journey,
- makers, hobbyists, artists,
- curious people,
- students, teachers,
- people in fashion,
- those who want to learn a new skill

This session focuses on the e-textile technology available and how we can use it. We look at the basic and simple no coding components, to the more complex programmable circuits.
This lesson will be taught in two videos:
- Basic components and sewing with conductive thread
- Advanced circuits, Lilypad, Circuit Express, Gemma, Flora
Video 48 Min + 2 Min read to complete
Our last lesson will focus on using the e-textile boards we looked at in the previous lesson. We will follow a project together. Once complete, you will be on your way to plan and make your own!
