Our York Hackspace group set up at the Manchester Maker Faire over the weekend of Saturday 26th / 27th July. On the official site this event is described as: “the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. It’s a place where people show what they are making, and share what they are learning.”

The space was one of the massive warehouses and it covered 3 floors plus outside space so was really huge. There were so many people visiting, and of such a variety of ages and it was great to see so many people have a go at the spacehack game. It’s such a fun game because you really have to work together to survive and the team work and dynamics between people, (some know each other and some were total strangers) is fascinating to watch. It was also a great chance to meet some of the other makers and had a chance to get to know some of the Manchester and Leeds hackspace people. There was also a lot of amazing tech folks there so a lot of inspiring conversations too! If you haven’t had a chance to try it out then please try to catch us at the other maker faires happening soon!
Also from the maker website, “Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds. The aim of Maker Faire is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this community.”
