She teaches Computer Science at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada, from her position as a Post Graduate Lecturer at The Glasgow School of Art, Scotland, UK. There she taught codesign, design innovation, interaction design, with a focus on physical computing, electronics, and prototyping. This taught programme was the Masters Design Innovation and Interaction Design, as a specialism leader.
With over 15 years of experience in teaching these subjects, Christine has created interactive installations internationally and provided research and support for a hearing and visual impairment charity. This was aimed at improving everyday experiences.
Christine has a PhD in Smart objects in the domain of forgetfulness, using experience-centred design, she created ‘smart’ RFID object-based memory aids. She is continuing to research and create wearable technologies that focus on enhancing the quality of life, interpersonal communication, and community well-being. She specializes in incorporating touch-sensitive (conductive) fabrics (eTextiles) into her designs to enable interactive experiences that generate sounds or other programmed responses.
Awarded a 4-year scholarship from EPSRC for her PhD in Media & Arts Technology, Queen Mary University of London, UK. MSc in Creative Technology (Distinction) from Leeds Beckett University, UK.
Projects have received both Arts Council, UK, and British Council, UK, funding.
Christine is also the author of The Ultimate Guide to informed wearables, from Prototype to Purpose, which is a hands-on guide for using a participatory design process to create wearable technology using Arduino-based electronics.
Master wearable technology with over 50 activities using Arduino and ESP32 to build useful, stylish, and intelligent wearable devices and create interactive circuits that react to us and our environment.
